This has been an amazing and tough journey at the same time. I started this process unsure of what I truly wanted to do and where it could take me. Since I wasn’t a healthcare professional, there was a lack of insight on what I could do outside of working in or owning a dispensary or advocacy. As I matriculated through the courses, I discovered how much work needs to be done and where I fit in. My concept map changed the more I learned, and I felt myself growing into the person that I would like to be on the cannabis industry. The only problem that I have now is streamlining my goals and developing a plan to work all areas where I hold interest. My plan is to continue my advocacy which became much stronger over the two years spent in the program, cannabis education, and to at some point open a cannabis treatment center where patients who are recommended cannabis will have a safe place to use it for the first time surrounded by clinicians and support staff to aid them. The center will also be a cannabis friendly getaway place including a spa that utilizes all cannabis derived products. This center will provide the opportunity for me to utilize the therapeutic knowledge that I gained in the program.
The pieces that I selected for this portfolio showcase some of my work in the program where I either received the highest scores or ones that fall in line with my career goals. The pieces illustrate the knowledge that I have gained through the various courses. I now have a clear understanding of the differences between pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. I have learned extraction methods, methods of drug delivery, first pass metabolism and why when I ate an edible that contained THC the effects were much stronger. Two major areas of knowledge gained regarded cannabis laws and the history of how it became illegal and determining the effectiveness of medical cannabis therapy. I gained skills that would allow me to determine if cannabis is the right course of therapy for a patient based upon their medical history, current medication, and therapy. The information in the pieces selected along with those that were not included will be resources that I can utilize on my cannabis career journey. I now look forward to participating in cannabis research after completing some of the coursework. Prior to this program that wasn’t a thought.
